Mechanics of Solids is a text for the junior level course called Strength of Materials, Mechanics of Solids, Mechanics of Materitals taken by civil, mechanical, mechanics and aerospace engineering students. It builds upon the background of a statics course and extends the analysis of the equilibrium of rigid bodies -to allow for the deformation of components. An interactive computer program enables students to -carry out computer assisted problem solving, making use of methods which they have mastered for small scale problems solved by hand. 1. Develops a systematic, organized, effective method for solving problems of deformable bodies. 2. Presents methods for computer assisted problem solving; includes software disk to do this. 3. Clear notion of the ideas of design calculations for combined stress. 4. Clear discussion of topics on a) singularity functions for beam analysis b) -Mohr's circle construction for stress and strain, c) analysis for beam deflections using a beam element. 5. Over 1,000 end-of-chapter problems and 150 worked-out examples.
